Knoll Associates Wholesale Price List Test Print, 1965

Information:
Knoll Associates Inc. Wholesale Price List, January 15, 1965. Designer: Herbert Matter
Acquired from a collection of a former Knoll Associates employee. Sadly, we have no further information about the print. We guess it was a kind of test print for the actual running price list. The most significant detail is a difference in terms of color variation in the design. The official price list is designed with green as the main background color and white/blue for the graphic element in the middle. The test print is designed the same way, except the centered graphic is red instead of blue.
We also noticed the green and red lines on three sides of the print and came to the conclusion that these should be misalignment lines in CMYK registration. In color printing, print registration is the layering of printed patterns to form a multicolor pattern.
The circled “A” could be an indicator of a series of prints with “A" as the first test print in a row. It was not an unusual process to do several different prints before running a multiple and official final product.
All in all, this could be the first test sheet of the Wholesale Price List, January 15, 1965, by designer Herbert Matter.
The Wholesale Price List, January 15, 1966, changes the background color from green to dark orange, but the white and blue graphic elements are the same.
